Utilizing the CirculenRecover polyamide material from LyondellBasell, specialist sports equipment company TSL has created a new snowshoe that will benefit outdoor sports enthusiasts. The soles of the new snowshoes are not only made from recycled materials, but also combine extreme abrasion resistance with a stylish design.
As a global leader in snowshoe development and manufacturing, TSL's values are linked to respect for nature, health and innovation. It was therefore natural for TSL to invest in a new snowshoe prototype using recycled materials. The challenge of this project was to find a plastic material that was based on recycled materials but also met all the technical and visual requirements. LyondellBasell's CirculenRecover product line, based on mechanically recycled raw materials, brought the solution.
Bruno Viala, Business Development Manager at Leander Basell, says: "Snowshoes in general, and their insoles in particular, are obviously used in extreme conditions. They need to be highly resistant to impact and low temperatures, and they need to be durable. These requirements are often incompatible with plastics made from recycled materials. After several meetings and trials, we worked with TSL to select CirculenRecover EP PA MV SHI H grade for this project. The product contains approximately 801 TP3T of recycled material and meets the quality and design standards required by TSL's customers."
Yoan Bibollet, Head of Development at TSL, says: "This is the first time we have worked with Leander Bassel on a new product and we have been very impressed with the materials and the extensive experience of their team. The plastic material we chose for the sole met all the requirements. We were looking for a deep black color, which is currently needed in snowshoe design. Our experts tested the sample in real-life, harsh conditions and it passed all tests without any problems. In addition, it was extraordinarily easy to process, which made our manufacturing team very happy."
TSL's sustainable snowshoes are now in mass production and will be available in the winter of 2022/2023.
