It's no secret that the consumer electronics industry has a plastic problem. Every year, people around the world use about 622 million USB cables. It takes about 43,000 tons of oil and about 9,000 tons of plastic to make those cables, and those numbers are only going to continue to grow.

The outer jacket of Anker's new bio-based cable is sustainably manufactured from 40% plant-based materials such as corn and sugar cane. This innovative new cable reduces the use of petroleum-based plastics such as thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) without sacrificing quality, strength or durability.

"As a global leader in mobile charging, it is our responsibility to explore ways to minimize reduce the e-waste impact of our products and packaging on the environment," said Steven Yang, CEO of Anker Innovation.
